Day 4: Rennie On Slide

Rennie On Slide

Rennie’s a good friend and a super talented musician. His music is a style all of it’s own, and over the years we’ve had the pleasure of both sharing songs and stages with him. We had him support us at our Thunderbolt launch show in Melbourne, and at the end of the night, he joined us on stage for a rendition of Pavements ‘Father To A Sister Of Thought’.

I asked Reni if he was interested in contributing to the album about the same time Danny left the band, it felt like a good opportunity to tinker with the live sound a little bit. I sent Reni demos of the songs he would eventually record with us on the album, he wrote his amazing guitar parts, and then played some shows with us to see if it was a good fit. They were great shows, and it felt like a solid chapter in the evolution of the bands sound.

Rennie recorded his guitar one Saturday afternoon (in the hallway outside makeshift studio #4), just a couple of takes for each song. Then we sat at the garden furniture set up in our living room, ate pizza and drank red wine.

Lyrics

Heston Front –

Figure out where it was,

Where I decided I wanted more,

Plutonic better dead and gone,

It goes atomic before too long,

Super friends, avenging around,

We boldly go where no one’s allowed,

Disco tripping and coming down,

But I still want you, I want you around,

Together we make whole,

Girl’s a friend you’re out of luck,

If it’s a friend you wanna fuck,

Girl’s a friend you’re out of luck,

If it’s a friend you wanna fuck,

Figure out where it was,

You put me right back, right where I belong,

If we never get involved,

It’s all for better or so I’m told,

Girls a friend you’re out of luck,

If it’s a friend you wanna fuck,

Write it all out in song,

I start to wonder if the world could be wrong,

We can’t let this grow cold,

And you say if we fight it won’t end up alright,

But it’s old,

It’s old…
